Steve Dillard started racing in 1976. He was involved with several race teams from 1976 through 1980. That was the grassroots of what is now known as Dillard Racing.

Dillard Racing started in 1999, which was Brent’s first year of racing at the age of 12. He started in a 10-foot Hydro with a 15 HP motor. In late October of 1999, Brent competed in his first race in Camden, NC. As a rookie, he started last place in a heat of boats and was told not to pass anyone unless it was on the outside; he finished fourth. The next day, in the final heat, he was able to race at will and won the race by 6 boats links.

Since then, Brent has won many championships. One of the most memorable wins was in the summer of 2001, Brent’s first year to race stock outboard in APBA at the age of 14. He won one of the biggest classes in APBA and one of the most popular, a stock Hydro. That was very special to such a young man to challenge the 40 peers who drove and traveled from the US to race at Whitney Point, New York.

Brent's next biggest accomplishment was winning the Hall of Champions in 2004 and for the past 3 years, he has won two US National Championships, North American Championships, Divisional Championships, High Point Championships, Powerboat Super League Series Champion and to cap it off, was inducted in 2008 to the Hall of Champions.

Currently, Brent is an NCAA student-athlete at Hampden-Sydney College in Farmville, Virginia, playing point guard. This is his second year of college. Brent’s major is Psychology and he plans to pursue his Master’s degree in the same field. During the summer, he drives his race boat and during the school year he works hard in class and plays basketball for the college. Brent's parents, Steve & Teresa Dillard, own Dillard Financial Solutions in Sumter, South Carolina.

Brent's career highlights include 3 UIM World Records, 5 North American Championships, 8 US National Championships, 3 US National High Point Championships and 6 APBA Divisional Championships. In 2004 he was inducted into the American Powerboat Hall of Champions and the South Carolina House of Representatives awarded Brent the Achievement Award for being the youngest South Carolinian to be inducted into the Hall of Champions at age 17. He was Formula 3 APR Superleague Rookie of the Year in 2006 and F3 APR Superleague series Champion in 2008. 2008 also saw him inducted into the American Powerboat Hall of Champions.
